Internships

The state of Hessen provides unique opportunities for internships.

Located in the heart of Europe, Hessen is one of the strongest economic regions of the continent and is indeed the strongest state economy in Germany. It is home to a broad range of industries with a strong international presence. Examples of international companies with a base in Hessen include e. g. Amazon, Canon, General Motors and Philips. Adding to the international base of the city, the continent's major air traffic center, the Rhine-Main airport, contributes to the importance of the region on a global scale. Further, Frankfurt am Main plays host to the German Federal Bank (German Bundesbank) and the European Central Bank which makes it a central hub for over 400 other major banks, making Hessen Europe’s prime financial center. The city also features the largest Futures-Stock Exchange worldwide and multiple international trade fairs and conventions. By consistently investing in new technologies, Hessen has also become one of the most important European locations for high-tech business.

Connections between universities and the private sector

Hessen Networks! is the central contact for international internships. Established by the Hessen Universities, Hessen Networks! serves as an internet based hub for a large network of organizations which share interest in international student internships. This set of contacts brings together the Hessen Universities, enterprises offering student internships, administrative bodies (responsible for work permits, grants etc.) and associations supporting international student internships. Thus, international students are provided with all the information needed about internships in Hessen including placement programs, available internship positions, internship preparation (work permits, grants etc.) and language courses.
