Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences

About the University

The Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences offers more than 50 degree programs covering architecture, engineering, computer science, business and law studies, health studies and social work.

Interdisciplinary project and research centers range from the Logistics, Mobility, and Sustainability over Urban and Regional Development and Technology to Demographic Change, Addiction Research and Gender Studies. Substantial professional experience in the private or public sector is obligatory for faculty members, so in addition to scientific expertise they generally have an industry background. The university’s excellent contacts and expertise in business and other organizations provide for student internship and research opportunities in the thriving Greater Frankfurt region.

Programs generally include courses in English, offering exchange opportunities for non-German speakers. On the Master level, there are also degree courses taught in English exclusively and attracting an international group of full time students. Also, there are international summer universities covering a variety of subjects.

The university provides a wide range of support and welcome services to students. Public transport in the greater region is included in the modest administrative fee. The outstanding sports program is offered mostly free of charge.

About the City

Frankfurt is a small metropolis of 700.000, but a meeting place of great importance. It is the financial hub of Europe and headquarters of the European Central Bank. International trade fairs have been held in Frankfurt since 1240, including the popular annual book, automobile, and computer fairs. The stock exchange was first established in 1585 and Frankfurt was home to the Rothschild family, who started the international banking empire. Frankfurt has long been a key destination for river, rail, and road traffic. Frankfurt is the main traffic hub for Germany and an important inland shipping port. Its airport, one of Europe’s busiest, is the largest in Germany. The city manufactures automobiles, machinery, chemical and pharmaceutical products, and printing materials.
